Any single lymph node site may represent melanoma. A cure may be achieved in 15 percent of cases by completely removing the lymph nodes in the involved area, even when the primary site is never found.
Multiple Skeletal Lesions
In males, a prostatic cancer should be suspected. If there are no other clues, hormonal therapy might be given, because it will be beneficial for a cancer with a prostatic origin and is quite harmless.
In females, breast cancer is a possibility. In both sexes, a thyroid cancer should be kept in mind, since both tumors may be treated effectively even in the metastatic stage (by hormonal therapy and chemotherapy for breast cancer and with radioiodine for thyroid cancer). Metastatic thyroid cancer that does not resemble normal thyroid tissue (poorly differentiated or undifferentiated), however, can seldom be treated with radioactive iodine.
